Cricket Hat Tricks

cricket bats

A hat trick is a sequence of wickets that a cricketer takes. A batsman claiming three wickets in a single innings is known as a hat trick. This is a rare feat that is not often seen, and is considered a rare event. However, there are instances where a player has been dismissed twice in a single innings. This type of dismissal is called a "double-hat trick", and is uncommon.

Merv Hughes' remarkable hat-trick

In 1988, Merv Hughes completed the most unusual cricket hat-trick in Test cricket history. He was able to take the wickets Curtly Ambrose (pt. 2), Patrick Patterson (pt. 3) and Gordon Greenidge (pt. 2). It took him just three overs, two days and one day. It is the first time that a cricketer has taken three wickets in one Test match.

Merv Hughes's unusual cricket hat triple has made him a cricket legend. Between 1985-1994, he picked up 212 wickets on behalf of Australia. In ODI matches, he also took 38 wickets. In 1988, he was in Perth and scored his hattrick.

Trent Boult's hattrick

Trent Boult became the 11th World Cup cricketer to score a hat-trick. The New Zealander was able to take three wickets of the Australians in the 50th Over at Lord's. Boult bowled a series of yorkers that landed into leg stumps to dismiss Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff. Boult said that although the hat-trick was satisfying at the time, he would rather have taken the wickets the first over.
