South Africa's openers Neil McKenzie (South Africa) and Graeme Smith (South Africa) hold the record for highest opening partnership in Test cricket. They scored 415 runs in their first innings against Bangladesh. Smith scored 232 runs from 277 balls, scoring 33 fours and sixes. McKenzie added 170 runs. South Africa won this match by 205 runs.

Lawry and Simpson
Lawry scored a double-hundred against the West Indies, May 6, 1966. Simpson also scored the double-hundred. It was the most successful opening partnership in Test History. They also broke the January 1936 record, set by Jack Fingleton (Bill Brown) of 358 runs for the first wicket. They also became the first opening pair to score double centuries.
Atkinson and Washbrook
Hayden and Watson shared more than 2,500 Test runs, and an average of more than 50. They also share the record for the highest wicket-sharing partnership in Test cricket. The pair formed Australia's first ever drop side. The average run of the pair was 67 runs. They had 16 partners totaling over 100 runs.
Smith and Gibbs
Herschelle Gibbs has shared the record for most opening partnerships in test cricket. They scored a remarkable 301 to take South Africa's first test against England in July 2003. Gibbs fell for only 179 runs, while Smith managed 277 runs in the innings to help South Africa win their first Test by nine runs. England were limited to 321 runs in their reply. The second innings saw England score 110 runs, which resulted in a draw.
Rahul Dravid
Virat and Rahul Dravid were the top opening partners in test cricket. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 222 runs for the third Test match. They are the only pair to have combined hundred and twenty-five fifty-plus partnership in one Test series. Dravid was also the only player to catch more than ten balls in a Test series. This record was set against Australia in 2004-05 Test series.
